The original

José Costa y Bonells (died 1870), Called Pepito, Francisco de Goya, ca. 1810, Metropolitan Museum of Art, object 61.259.

The story

Known as Pepito, the sitter was the son of Rafael Costa de Quintana, physician to King Ferdinand VII. Goya dressed the child in an elaborate military-inspired costume and surrounded him with toys that echo the portrait's military theme. The result is one of Goya's most charming portraits of childhood, with rather more authority than one might expect from its small officer.

Fine Art Paper: museum-quality fine-art reproduction. Matte Cotton Canvas: a softly textured canvas finish for a more traditional painted appearance.

Category: THE LITTLE LORD.
