The original
The Williamson Family, John Mix Stanley, circa 1841–42, Metropolitan Museum of Art, object 1976.338.
The story
John Mix Stanley depicts a New York merchant, his wife and their eldest son at home. The furniture and surroundings are not incidental. They establish the family’s status and make this portrait as much a record of domestic life as a family likeness.
Fine Art Paper: museum-quality fine-art reproduction. Matte Cotton Canvas: a softly textured canvas finish for a more traditional painted appearance.
