The Fancy Dress Family
Choose a historical portrait. Send us your photograph. We'll create your place in history.
A family gathering with silk, lanterns, fairy wings and one gentleman in white tie. Christmas, apparently. Or something rather close to it.
Present yourself. Choose your size and finish, then send us a clear photograph. We shall arrange the likeness and place you, quite convincingly, within the original portrait.
The original
In fancy dress, H. Linley Richardson, circa 1930, Te Papa, registration 1948-0005-3.
The story
Richardson painted his own family soon after moving to Manawatū. The picture shows the artist with three daughters, including Cynthia with fairy wings and a wand. Te Papa notes the shimmering effect of the silk dresses and the strange, theatrical glow of the lanterns.
Fine Art Paper: museum-quality fine-art reproduction. Matte Cotton Canvas: a softly textured canvas finish for a more traditional painted appearance.
