Two young heirs, one very serious tutor and a sheep who appears to have wandered into the arrangement without consulting anyone.
Sir Joshua Reynolds painted Thomas and Martha Neate with their tutor, Thomas Needham, in 1748.
It is part family portrait, part education, part pastoral theatre.
Quite a responsibility for Mr Needham.
